Stand mixers have a number of optional attachments that will allow you to extend the mixer's use to making pasta and chopping food.

There are several publications that rate stand mixers periodically and the consensus is that the KitchenAid Classic and Hamilton Beach Eclectrics offer the best combination of value and performance. Viking Mixers also were considered favorabally but some thought they were noisy.
What We Think:
Our staff has used and tested the several mixers and we agree that the KitchenAid Classic K45SS offers the best value on the market today. The street price is aproximately $180.
