Kitchen Shears Review
Who makes the best Kitchen Shears? We set out to find a pair that were sharp, easy to clean, easy to sharpen and we gave extra credit for additional helpful gadgets. Here are the rankings in order:
Kershaw Taskmaster Shears 1120: These hefty shears were the favorite of all our testers. The high carbon stainless steel blades are super sharp and make cutting even tough things like small bones or flower stems easy. We also liked the many gadgets like the nut cracker, bottle opener, jar opener and screw driver. The shears come apart for easy cleaning in the dishwasher as well. Priced at 29.95 these are offer excellent value.
Messermeister Take Apart Shears Model DN-1070: The Messermeister shears performed very well in all our cutting tests. They were sharp out of the box and maintained their sharpness throughout our tests. The shears have many of the same features as the Kershaw Shun Shears above including a screwdriver head, nut cracker and bottle opener. They come apart easily for dishwashing. At $19.95 they were the best value and are a fine choice.
Henckels Take Apart Shears: Henckels offers lots of different shears. We found that these shears were lacking in several respects. First, the steel is not made in Germany but in China. We found the edges dulled quickly and the shears lacked some of the gadgets we enjoyed on the above shears. Also, the pivot screw was difficult to take apart and the plastic cap on the back side of the pivot looked cheap and easy to damage.
