"What kind of cutting board should I use?" is a question we get often. There are so many shapes, sizes and materials used in the manufacture of cutting boards that the choices can be confusing. There are three basic purposes for a cutting board, to help keep you from ruining the edge of your kitchen knife, sanatation and to protect your counter top. We recommend you use at least 2 cutting boards, one for meats and fish that can hold up to dishwashing and a wood cutting board for everything else. Do not use glass, ceramic or other hard surfaces. They will ruin the edges on your knives.
Here are a few of our favorites:
Totally Bamboo Longa Tonga Cutting Board:
Totally Bamboo makes excellent quality cutting boards out of bamboo which is a renewable resource. This board is made using end grain bamboo which is very stable and holds up to lots of use. This is the best board we have used.
Calphalon Round Chopping Block:
This chopping block is made of hardwood and we like the cut out underneath that makes it easy to get ahold of the
board.
